Fwd: Local School Wellness Policy Tool Kit now available!

FYI in case any districts are looking for resources for developing their Wellness Policies and Committees, there's a downloadable wellness policy toolkit in the email below (it's free, but you need to enter your contact info). There are some specific sections on school gardens and incorporating farm to school activities as well.

Hello Partners in School Health & Wellness!

Green Umbrella is excited to share the NEW Local School Wellness Policy Tool Kit as a resource and call to action for individuals, school districts, school food service operations, and partner organizations.

The Tool Kit is a playbook to create a customized school district policy to support nutritious food security, disease prevention, physical activity, environmental stewardship, and mental wellness while creating a culture of care.

An individual Local School Wellness Policy (LSWP) exists in every school district across the nation that participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs. The LSWP Tool Kit is your guide for galvanizing a whole-school district wellness network by engaging residents, partner organizations, and municipalities in the planning and implementation of a wellness policy.

The Tool Kit can also guide communities to help determine what legislation and policies are needed at the local level to elevate climate action, provide solutions to a broken food system, and address the health crisis affecting school children.

It's a powerful resource for school district leadership to increase academic performance, improve attendance, and positively impact graduation rates.

Developed by Green Umbrella's Green Umbrella's Green Schoolyards Action Network, in partnership with Slow Food USA and Whole Kids, the Tool Kit supports the planning and implementation of effective school wellness policies.

Please share with your networks as a resource in newsletters, on social media, and on your organization's website!

STAY TUNED!! We will be presenting The Power of School Wellness Policy: a ToolKit Walk-Through webinar soon. Look for details coming your way in the near future!

Wishing you good health,
