Save the date for the MI Farm to School Regional Trainings, and connect with other farm to school champions throughout Michigan!
The MSU Center for Regional Food Systems invites you to join with other farm to school stakeholders from your region to help plan and expand your farm to school program. Topics this year include a deeper dive into local procurement rules and regulations, focus on local sourcing through Cultivate Michigan, exploring strategies for seasonal menu development, and opportunities to hear and learn from those making farm to school work in their K-12 schools/districts and early childhood programs. Hear from regional resource hubs, MSU Extension Community Food Systems educators, the MSU Center for Regional Food Systems, and other local farm to school champions, and come away with practical tools to initiate or expand your farm to school programs. The primary audience for these trainings is food and/or nutrition directors, early childhood program and school teachers and staff, and those that are in supporting roles for farm to school programs. The training is free of charge.
Trainings this year will be held at the following locations:
September 20, 2016 – Boyne Falls Public School, Boyne Falls
September 22, 2016 – Baxter Community Development Center, Grand Rapids
September 27, 2016 – Drew Farms at Detroit Public Schools, Detroit
Stay tuned for more information including a detailed agenda and link to registration in the future weeks, and contact Abby Harper at harperab@msu.edu for more information or with questions.
