Open Position: School Nutrition Leader - Petoskey, MI

~ Hello MSU listservs ~

The FoodCorps application portal is open for those interested in being candidates as 2021-2022 FoodCorps AmeriCorps Service Members. In Michigan, we have been accepting applications to serve in schools with site partners in Detroit, Flint, Muskegon, and the Petoskey region. For full consideration, candidates should submit their applications asap. The candidate must, at a minimum, serve 1,700 allowable hours beginning in August 2021 through mid July for an 11-month term.

FoodCorps Michigan has connected over 50,000 children to healthy food in schools across the state since 2010. We complement school wellness objectives by placing FoodCorps' trained AmeriCorps members in kindergarten through 8th grade classes, where they deliver our evidence-backed program to students. Our members work with staff, students, and community members to implement evidence-based strategies that get kids to eat healthily. For more information on applying to serve in Michigan, contact FoodCorps MI Program Coordinator Quan Blunt - miprograms@foodcorps.org or for questions specific to serving at Groundwork in our Petoskey location, contact Jen Schaap, jen@groundworkcenter.orghttps://www.groundworkcenter.org/careers/

School Nutrition (Pilot Program) in Five States across the U.S.

NEW THIS YEAR! Available in Michigan in Detroit & Petoskey

●  Service members focus on district-level school nutrition projects that will work to change what students eat at school every day. Service members will work with school nutrition professionals to integrate healthy foods into breakfast, lunch and snack programs and more. Under the supervision of district-level school nutrition leaders, and with ongoing support and training from FoodCorps, these members will help to advance the goals and vision for school meal quality in the districts where they serve.

●  Service members help build schoolwide cultures of health by building strong, collaborative relationships with teachers, families, and school administrators, recruiting and training volunteers, organizing committees and running meetings, talking to press and public officials.

●   Service members spend time learning and participating in trainings, helping FoodCorps and schools assess the impact they are having, and raising money to help support the local projects when allowable.

Please assist us by including this information in eNewletters and job boards, and forwarding the attached flyer to all interested parties.
