Re: MI Farm to School Grant Program Grantee Announcement

Dear Farm to School friends and partners, 

Since we announced our Grant Program Grantees earlier this month we've learned that there were a few issues (mainly with MY email) with the receipt of quite a few grant applications. I've been working with tech support to resolve these issues however, if you submitted a grant application for the 2012-213 Grant Program year and have yet to receive a response from either myself or Colleen Matt, please follow-up with me, Jekeia Murphy, ASAP. We greatly apologize for any inconvenience and will work to establish a better application submission system for next year (YES, there will be a next year!).  

With that said, we have great updates to share in regards to our 2012 –2013 MI Farm to School Grant Program! Earlier this month we announced that this coming grant year, our program participation would more than double. However, since then, we are pleased to announce that our upcoming program year participation has more than tripled! Please see below for an updated grantee list that includes 25 grantees from 17 different counties across the state.

With funding from the WK Kellogg Foundation, the Michigan State University Center for Regional Food Systems will award $49,000 for schools/districts around the state to plan for or implement farm to school programs across the state. We are excited to announce that this year a total of 25 schools/districts and early childcare programs  have been selected to participate!

Each grantee isunique, with exciting and innovative ideas for planning for or implementingfarm to school programs.  Since a goal of this grant program is to increase access to healthy and local food choices for vulnerable children, each school/district or early childcare program selected to participate has at least 50% free and reduced-price meal enrollment (as of application date). 

 

This program is a direct way to help food/nutrition directors across the state overcome some of the many challenges they face when working to initiate and expand farm to school programs.  Grantees will be awarded up to $2,000 dollars in funding and provided with technical assistance and training opportunities to help develop, support and enhance their farm to school activities and programs! With funding from the WK Kellogg Foundation, the C.S. Mott Group for Sustainable Food Systems at Michigan State University will award up to $2,000 for schools/districts around the state to plan for or implement farm to school programs. We are excited to announce that this year a total of 22 schools/districts and early childcareprogram applicants across the state have been selected to participate this year! This is almost triple the amount of grantees from our 2011 – 2012 grant program year!
