Good Afternoon!

Thank you for your support of the Michigan Healthy School Meals For All campaign. We have exciting and timely updates to share.

As you may have seen, SB 500 has been introduced, which would create a permanent Healthy School Meals for All program!

In addition, the Senate Education Committee has announced that they will host a hearing on the bill TOMORROW Tuesday, September 19th, at 1:30pm. The American Heart Association, SNA Michigan, and No Kid Hungry Michigan have been invited to testify in favor of the bill. We expect a committee vote to happen in the next week.

It is more important than ever to have your voice heard. We are asking coalition members to submit WRITTEN testimony in support of SB 500 by the start of the hearing.

To aid in this process, we have prepared model testimony that can be used by students, parents, organizations, and others. Instructions for submission are included. Please see the attached for draft testimony and instructions to submit.

Again, we are asking members of the coalition to submit written testimony by 1:30pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, using the instructions and model outlined in the attachment.

Thank you all for your partnership and commitment to Michigan Healthy School Meals For All! We will continue to keep you updated through the hearing and in days ahead.
