Farm to School Job Opening in Traverse City-May 22 deadline

TBAISD Farm to School Position

Are you passionate about healthy food, farms, and kids? Or do you know someone who is? Then please spread the word:

Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District has an AmeriCorps VISTA job opening in its Farm to School Program, which is a collaboration with the Michigan Land Use Institute to create and implement curriculum, school gardens, and procurement of local and regional food products throughout the region. The job description states that the value of the position is to help students eat more healthy foods, as it will have a positive effect on their ability to concentrate and learn. Other values include being good stewards of the environment and teaching students skills and strategies to carry through their lifetime. Integrating farm to school and school garden lessons with new science, English, and math standards for activities and lessons will be an aspect of the position, as will compiling farm to school and school garden resources such as grants, and creating a visible presence for these tools on TBAISD's Web site and through other communications.
